John Schafer

John Scott Schafer, age 80, of Holland, OH, passed away September 1, 2023. He was born July 15, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio. John proudly served his country for four years in the US Navy. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan he met his wife, Masako Sadamatsu. They married on August 29, 1966. John and Masako settled in Holland, OH where they built a life and raised their two sons, John, and Fred. John had a successful career with AT&T as a phone technician.

John was very engaged in his children’s hobbies. He taught his son, John, how to create movies and built numerous props for his films. With his son, Fred, John taught him how to build and repair cars. He had a passion for flying and obtained his pilot’s license at a young age. John enjoyed working with his hands and built many model airplanes. He was an excellent chef and will be remembered for his amazing spaghetti. John had a sweet tooth and loved snacking on Almond Joys. An animal lover, John loved his dogs, Freddy, Chon, Speedy and Shorty.

He will be greatly missed by his family for his practical advice and long chats about life. Watching James Bond films will not be the same without him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janice Kohler. John was survived by his wife, Masako Sadamatsu Schafer; sons, John (Rebekah) and Fred (Tammy); grandchildren, Nicholas, Lily, Josiah, Brooke, and Midori; nephew, Jeff Kohler; and niece, Jill Kohler.
