John R. Rummell, 92, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1934, in Ohio City, to Alex and Fay (Hiles) Rummell.
John graduated from Libbey High School in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 as a tail gunner on a B-52 bomber and was honorably discharged. John dedicated 27 years of service to the City of Toledo as a firefighter, retiring in 1987 with the rank of Captain. During his career, he primarily served at Station 5 in downtown Toledo and Station 9 in south Toledo.
An avid woodworker, John generously shared his craftsmanship with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, serving as first mate on a charter boat, and looked forward to annual waterfowl hunting trips to Canada with friends. John will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Jay Rummell, Julie (Richard) Vogel, Michelle (Mike) Valiant, and Mike Litten; grandchildren, Alex Vogel, Jessica (Luke) Armbruster, and Justin (Kayla) Staton; great-grandchildren, Faith, Maxine, and Reed; brother, Robert (Norine) Rummell; sister-in-law, Sharon Robinson; nephew, Terry; nieces, Denise and Evy; along with many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Rummell; daughter-in-law, Amy Litten; sister, Janet (Dick) Lee; nephew, Chris; and niece, Kelly.
The family will receive friends at Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 pm until military honors and Last Alarm service at 7:00 pm. Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers to the Toledo Firefighter Museum or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
