John A. Jack Reid age 79 of Toledo passed away Monday March 3, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family. Jack was born December 19, 1928 in Port Dover, Ontario Canada to Hazen and Doris Reid. He was a greenskeeper for Inverness Country Club for 25 years then went to Heatherdowns Country Club for 10 years retiring in 1993. Jack was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #197 where he played in their annual golf tournament. He was a member of the Adams Conservation Club and was an expert marksman with the NRA participating in the national shooting championships at Camp Perry. He was also a member of the IMA, and TAPS Toledo Area Polka Society. An avid sportsman, Jack enjoyed fishing, golfing and baseball in which he was a huge Start High School baseball fan. He played hockey all his life and enjoyed Torios Health Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Danny Reid; and brother Darrell Reid. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June; daughter Christy Szalkowski; son John Jodi Reid; grandchildren Jerry, Ross, Reid and Bisan Reid, and Erik Malissa and Joel Szalkowski; great-grandchildren Drake and Alexis; sisters-in-law Nancy Harnischfeger and Evelyn Waters; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Friday from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 12 Noon in the funeral home with burial to be private. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the American Cancer Society.
