John Vaiz Ramirez

June 24, 1960 — November 19, 2024

John Vaiz Ramirez, known affectionately by his family and friends as "Johnny" and "Papa Smurf”, passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 64 years old.

Born on June 24, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, to Remigio and Martha (Vaiz) Ramirez, John grew up in the community and made his mark as a hardworking, quiet, and fiercely independent individual. He attended Waite High School and started working at the Hirzel Canning Company at the young age of 16. Over the course of 30 years, John worked as a forklift operator.

John had a number of passions that defined his life. He was a devoted fan of Detroit Tigers baseball and Dallas Cowboys football, often spending time watching games and keeping up with the latest scores. He also had a love for fishing, finding peace and enjoyment in the quiet solitude it offered. Those who knew John would also remember him for his fondness for his girl dogs and his personal weather broadcasts to family members. He enjoyed playing Strikeout at Franklin School with his friends.

While John could be stubborn, he was also known for his sense of humor, often bringing laughter to those around him, even in the quietest moments. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his wit and charm were unmistakable.

John was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Martha Ramirez, and his grandparents, Martin and Georgia Ramirez and Lazaro and Maria Vaiz. He is survived by his father, Remigio Ramirez; his siblings Yolanda Gomez, Edward Ramirez, Irene (Tom) Ramirez, and Ramiro (Irene) Ramirez; along with 6 nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great-nieces and nephews, who will cherish his memory for years to come.

In keeping with John's wishes, funeral services will be private.
