John F. Pavlica, Sr.

John Frank Pavlica, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024, while at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was a resident in Assisted Living at St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg, Ohio.

John was born on February 21, 1940, to Frank and Bessie (Tihlarik) Pavlica, Sr. John was the second oldest of 7 children. He graduated from Macomber Vocational School, class of 1958. John enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He was a Military Policeman, guarding the planes at Plattsburgh, New York Air Force Base. John married Mariester (Gurtzweiler) Pavlica on September 23, 1961, in Perrysburg, Ohio. They lived in Plattsburgh, NY for several years before moving back to Toledo, Ohio, in 1963. John was then employed at Unitcast as a Patternmaker for over 30 years. After that, he worked for 10 years at Great Lakes Windows, before retiring in 2002.

John loved to sing! He sang in the Glee Club in high school, followed by singing in folk groups and choirs for the next 60 years in various churches. He loved singing karaoke at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, in Rossford, Ohio, every weekend. John was always at his happiest though, with time spent with his wife, children, and siblings.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mariester who passed away in 2021. They were married for 60 years. Also surviving are sons, John (Virginia), and Michael (Terri), and daughter, Jeanne (John) Peschel. Siblings, Joseph (Trudie) Pavlica, Carol Sue Sarns, Patricia (Bernie) Sailer, Kathy (Howard) Gurtzweiler; brother-in-law Robert Tolles; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Frank Pavlica, Jr., and Marge Tolles, and grandson Jacob Pavlica.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Walker-Sujkowski Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, Ohio, 43460. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 24250 N. Dixie Highway, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Viewing will be held 20 minutes prior to mass in the back of church. Interment will follow at St. Rose’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s name to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
