John Richard “Jack” Orovets, 86, of Catawba Island passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021 at home, with his loving wife by his side, after a stroke that left him bed ridden for a year. He was born in Cleveland, OH on July 9, 1934 the son of the late Paul Orovets, Sr. and Angela (Gerandy). He married Kathryn Elaine Balog, his childhood sweetheart, and she survives. Jack lived on Grandview Avenue as a child, and attended St. Elizabeth grade school, and Benedictine High School. He worked at Weldon Tool Co. for years and JoAnn Fabric Co. He moved to Catawba Island in 1975, learned to sew boat covers, and opened Aqua Marine Custom Canvas, and also Aqua Marine Mini Storage, and Tahiti Jack’s Tanning Shack. He was known as Mr. Entrepreneur, and was very successful in them all. Jack and his wife traveled all over the United States when they were younger. He enjoyed golfing and bike riding and walking at East Harbor State Park, and watching the sun rise on the water. Jack is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Paul, Jr. and Robert Orovets, and Helen Hudak. A Memorial Mass for Jack will be celebrated by Father John Misler at 10: 30 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, OH. Private burial will take place in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Jack may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Ottawa County Humane Society.
