John Omler

John R. Omler age 90 of Waterville, Ohio passed away on Saturday August 3, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. John was born in Wauseon, Ohio, to John C. and Edith Omler, both deceased. John leaves his loving wife of 68 years, Marjorie Powell Omler; sons, Michael Richard Omler and his wife, Kimberle of Vero Beach, Florida, and Alan Powell Omler and his wife, Elizabeth Liz of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Tiffany Reed Omler and Zane Michael Omler of Chesapeake, Virginia; sister, Gloria Omler Smith and husband, Arden of Columbus, Ohio and brother in-law, Wallace Dehnbostel of Archbold, Ohio. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Omler Dehnbostel. John graduated from Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, in Electrical Engineering, completed graduate work at Toledo University, and also attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He served in the Air Force during World War II, and earned 2 battle stars in the Pacific Theatre. John worked for Duquesne Light Company, Houghton Elevator, and Bridgeport Brass, before he joined the Campbell Soup Company as a Design Engineer. He then became manager of Maintenance and Engineering in Napoleon, Ohio and also Paris, Texas, before moving to General Office, The Campbell Soup Company, in Camden, New Jersey, where he was made Director of Maintenance and Engineering for the Canned Food Division. His final position with Campbells Soup was as the Project Engineer to design and build the Campbells plant in Maxton, North Carolina. He then retired in 1988. John was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Elks, The American Legion, and Rotary Club. During his retirement, he volunteered at St Luke Hospital for 13 years. He enjoyed woodworking, and loved to play bridge. John had a strong sense of family, God, and Country. A Memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway St. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11am . The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio at Perrysburg in his name.
