John W. Morton

August 5, 1938 — August 4, 2012

John W. Morton, age 73, passed away on August 4, 2012 at his home in Holland, Ohio from complications of cancer for six years, including two years with severe Shingles nerve pain. John was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 5, 1938, to John P. and Dora Schacht Morton. He married Peggy Kowalka on August 27, 1960 and they enjoyed over 50 adventurous years together. John attended Lake High School and graduated from Ohio University in 1963. He was a Mechanical Engineer for Owens-Illinois for 37 years before retiring. John was an excellent athlete when younger, and later enjoyed rooting for Indians baseball and Michigan football. He was interested in antique cars and owned several, including one that he built himself. John worked hard and played hard, and liked entertaining at home; he always had a joke to tell accompanied by a teasing twinkle in his eye. John especially loved to travel with his family while he was working for O-I. They lived in Venezuela, Spain and Brazil, where they had fun exploring many countries on foot and by car. John was an accomplished wood worker for 45 years and took pleasure in giving away his beautiful clocks, cutting boards, jewelry boxes, pens, and much more. John is survived by his wife Peggy; daughter, Cindy Jan Beseler; son, Ken Morton; sisters, Shirley Shimman, Diane Pedersen and Sharon Zunk; brothers, Ron Morton and Gary Nancy Morton; brother-in-law, Ron Kowalka; grandchildren, Claire and Benjamin Beseler, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Darlene Haehl and Joyce Houser, and brother Art Morton. The family will receive guests on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave West of Corey Road. Funeral Services will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 6735 Sylvania Ave, on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10:00 am. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses and aides for their support during a difficult time. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, National Cancer Society and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Online condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
