John "Butch" Howard Mollenhauer, 81, a lifelong resident of Genoa, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 26, 1943, in Toledo, OH, to Howard and Juanita (Jackson) Mollenhauer.
On February 14, 1981, in Key Largo, FL, Butch married the love of his life, Vicki Pennington, who preceded him in death on August 26, 2010.
Butch worked as an owner/operator truck driver for 60 years, retiring in 2023. He loved everything about trucking-if he wasn't on the road, he was talking about trucks or the weather. Known for his kindness, gentle nature, and sense of humor, Butch was a true gentleman and a jokester who loved to laugh.
Family meant everything to him. He kept in close contact with his loved ones, sometimes calling several times a day just to check in. He especially enjoyed going out to eat with his brother, Fred; the two shared a close and special bond.
Butch was a proud member of the Eagles and Moose lodges. He enjoyed traveling, a good margarita, and watching All in the Family-Archie Bunker never failed to make him smile. He loved attending Genoa football and basketball games and took great pride in caring for his yard. Known and loved by many, no one ever had anything bad to say about him. He will be deeply missed.
Butch is survived by his siblings, Mary Lugar, Louise Pukke, and Fred Mollenhauer; his children, Kathy (Don) Finfrock, Eddy Gross, Herb (Pam) Gross, Chuck (Jackie) Gross, Colby Gross, and Candy (Chris Milliron) Gross; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vicki.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 265 Veterans Ave., Elmore, OH 43416.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Butch's memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
