John Frank Mizerek, Jr.

May 7, 1941 — April 16, 2015

John Frank Mizerek, Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous 11 year battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He was born on May 7, 1941 in Muskegon, Michigan and graduated from Muskegon High School and Western Michigan University. John was married to his beloved Ruth (Mikos) Mizerek for 52 years. While his marketing business resulted in some brief moves away from Ohio, he made his home in the city of Sylvania for the majority of his life. John consulted for many of Toledos most successful companies during his career that included the creation of his own company, Pro Mark. After retirement, he spent time teaching business ethics at a local college. He enjoyed his volunteer work with Junior Achievement, working with students and cuddling newborns at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with his wife. He was intensely passionate about his work as a board member for the Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo where he dedicated his time and resources for more than a decade. John was deeply committed to his church, McCord Road Christian, where he served in multiple leadership positions. He was an avid musician and as a teenager and college student, he lead his own band, Johnny and the Drifters. John was an avid fan of Michigan football, the Detroit Lions and the Red Wings. Despite his career and other interests, his greatest love was his family. He devoted the majority of his time to his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his three children, Kimberly (John ) Miraldi, John Mizerek III and Kirkland (Julie) Mizerek. He also left behind five grandchildren, Allison, Julia, Jeffrey, Kendall and Jordan and his loyal four legged companion, Zack. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 pm at the McCord Road Christian Church, 4765 N. McCord Rd., Sylvania, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Monday at 12 noon. Interment will be private. Johns family wishes to express its deepest gratitude for the loving care he and the family received from the doctors and staff at St. Anne Hospital during his lengthy illness. It is requested, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo, 716 N. Westwood Ave., Toledo, OH 43607. Arrangements by the Walker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
