John A. Mcwilliam

John A. McWilliam, age 81, of Toledo passed away on Wednesday April 27, 2011 in his home. He was born February 28, 1930 in Toledo to Dr. John M. and Mary MacFarlane McWillam. A graduate of DeVilbiss High School and a member of its Hall of Fame, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from the University of Toledo Law School. After graduation from law school he began a 33 year career at the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority working first as the staff attorney for 10 years moving up to General Manager and President of the Port Authority until retiring in 1991. A member of Toledo Rotary Club, he was past president of the American Association of Port Authorities and was active in many port related groups. After retirement he and his wife Pat would spend winters in Palm Springs California where he was a member of Desert Princess Country Club and would return to Toledo in the summers where he was a member of Highland Meadows Golf Club. John was senior club champion at both Highland Meadows Golf Club and Catawba Island Club. He had 6 holes-in-one and regularly shot his age starting at 69 years old. John also took jazz piano lessons and played piano regularly. Surviving is his wife Patricia Faris, whom he married on April 4, 1953 and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his children, Ann Faris McWilliam, John L. McWilliam and Amy McWilliam Thayer Gregg; granddaughters, Margaret McWilliam Thayer Harrach, and Jessie McWilliam Thayer; and sister, Janet McWilliam Smith Robert L.. His family was his top priority and he celebrated his 80th birthday by hosting a reunion for his family both here in the United States and Canada. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in First Congregational Church, 2315 Collingwood Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43620. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Rotary Club of Toledo. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home 419-841-2422.
