John "Jack" Richard Mchenney

May 16, 1933 — October 27, 2023

John (Jack) Richard McHenney went to be with His Lord October 27, 2023. John was born to John Ray and Clara Mae (Heikes) McHenney in Chelsea, Michigan on May 16, 1933, the fifteenth of their eighteen children. At age three John entered foster care and was raised from age four by Charles Alan and Orpha Oaka (Edwards) McClellend of Reading, Michigan.

John graduated from Reading Community School in 1951. He served in Korea during the Korean War and later graduated from Indiana Technical College with a degree in electrical engineering. On August 24, 1958 John married Marlene Wallace and together they had two children, Mark and Cheryl.

John worked as an electrical engineer for International Harvester in Fort Wayne, IN, where he and Marlene attended Blackhawk Baptist Church and raised their children. In 1981, John moved to Naperville, Illinois, and continued working for Case/IH until retirement in 1996.

In 1998 John and Marlene moved to Van Wert, Ohio to care for Marlene’s parents, Sherman and Ethel Wallace. In 2003 they moved to Waterville, Ohio.

John and Marlene’s later years were filled with loving involvement in the lives of their children and grandchildren. Until leukemia prevented him from continuing in early 2023, John held a weekly breakfast for all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, hosting from twenty to thirty family members each Friday morning.

John cared for Marlene through her years of dementia until her death at home in 2022. In later decades John was a beloved member of Christ the Word Church of Sylvania, Ohio. John loved Christ and was confident in the face of death of his future in Heaven through the cross of Christ his Saviour.

John’s nineteen great grandchildren viewed him as a grandfather. They loved him deeply and knew him well as a man unselfish in life and courageous in death.

John is survived by his son Mark and his wife Sandra of Winfield, IL, and their children and grandchild: Rohen and Rebecca (McHenney) Shah and daughter Reina of Chicago, John (Jack) McHenney of West Chicago, IL, and Daniel McHenney of Wheaton, IL. He is also survived by his daughter, Cheryl (McHenney) Bayly and her husband David, their children and grandchildren: Nathan and Aleaha Bayly of Waterville, OH, and their children Micaiah, Nathan, Levi, Luzia, Noah and Malina; Elizabeth (Bayly) and Jonathan Rethorn of Waterville, OH, and children Rahab, Esther, Zipporah, Lazarus, Mordecai, Cyprus, Job and Pearl; Benjamin and Audrey Bayly of Waterville, OH, and their children Judson, Flynn, Jack and Gabriel; Tessa Bayly of Wheaton, IL, and: Isaiah Bayly of Waterville, OH.
