John M. Jakubec

John M. “Johnny Zee” Jakubec, 96, of Toledo, formerly of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 27, 1917 in Coral, Pennsylvania to Frank C. and Eva (Pastucha) Jakubec. He married Eleanor Nellie Schramm on November 2, 1940. Johnny Zee proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. He owned and operated Zee’s restaurant in Perrysburg for over 28 years before retiring in 1974. He enjoyed baseball and softball and along with his wife, Johnny sponsored Zee’s fast and slow pitch baseball in the Perrysburg Leagues for over 20 years, winning tournaments in Perrysburg as well being state district champions. He was an avid tennis and racquetball player well into his 80’s. He spent over 20 years in Florida. Johnny is survived by his loving daughters, LaVonne M. (Darrell) Green-Branch, Sharon S. (Marvin) Hill and Pamela K. (David) Cook, eight grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, sister, Mary Boulis and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, “Dude” and sisters, Anna Romp, Eva Balow, Margie Carstensen and Fran Schnabel. Friends will be received from 2:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, 419-874-3133 where a funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 with Pastor Timothy Philabaum officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, formerly Odyssey Hospice.
