John “Jack” R. Schatzley, age 85, left this world on June 20, 2025 to join his beloved wife and best friend, Kay. He was born May 22, 1940, in Pontiac, Michigan. Jack lived a life marked by creativity, craftsmanship, and quiet devotion to the things and people he loved most.
A graduate gemologist by trade and an entrepreneur at heart, Jack and his beloved wife, Kay built a legacy of elegance and trust when they opened Schatzley’s Gems Unlimited in 1979. Their daughter, Renee joined in the business full time in 1982 and was their jewelry designer and gemologist which set their store apart from others in that time. Over the years, their business grew into Schatzley’s Diamond and Jewelry Design Studio—renowned for its artistry, personal service, and integrity. Jack’s expert eye and meticulous attention to detail and high quality standards made him a respected name in the fine jewelry world. He retired from his business in 2012.
Outside of his professional life, Jack found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a green thumb and took pride in his flower and vegetable gardens, spending hours nurturing his cherished dahlias into bloom and feeding the neighborhood and friends with excess tomatoes and cucumbers. He and his wife shared a love of travel, exploring the world side by side, one destination at a time. At home, they could often be found in friendly rivalry over a game of Scrabble, a lifelong favorite pastime of theirs.
He leaves behind a legacy of beauty—in the jewelry he helped inspire, the relationships he built, and the life he lived with grace.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Renee and son-in-law, Bob Gall; three grandchildren, CJ Gall, Andrew Schatzley (fiancé, Viorica “V”), and Jillian Schatzley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Kay. Jack was one of 4 siblings of which are all still alive. Sisters, Janice Elaine Stevens, Judith Margaret Kerns and brother, Charles David Schatzley and many other cousins.
