John “Jack” A. Hoffman, 83, passed away on Saturday July 24, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Born in Toledo on December 11, 1937 to John and Ruth Hoffman, Jack was the oldest of ten children. Jack was an alter server at St. Rose, graduated from Perrysburg High School, and joined the workforce for General Motors Powertrain where he worked for 48 years, from 1956 to 2005. On June 13, 1959, he married Wilma Ruziscka at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church in Rossford, Ohio and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year. Jack is survived by his wife, Wilma, two children, Lindy (Rick) Hansen and John (Maria) Hoffman, and three grandchildren, Sarah Hansen (Christopher Wotta), Jacob (Kaylee) Hansen, and J.T. Hoffman. He is also survived by his nine siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Fouke, Jerry (Luanne) Hoffman, Allen (Bonnie) Hoffman, Ned (Cynthia) Hoffman, Jim Hoffman, Joan Haugh, Diane Nordhoff, Denise (Kevin) Benschoter, and Janet Wiley. Besides spending time with his family and friends, Jack was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Ohio State football. He loved to travel, boat, and was a weightlifter and diver. He dove for the Tritons and the Red Cross, until a diving accident in 1970 left him unable to walk. Despite his accident and full-time job, he was a devoted father and grandfather, cheering his children on at every band halftime show, wrestling match, and football game. Jack was a hero to his family for his enduring positivity in times of hardship and determination to overcome every obstacle. Jack’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the amazing team of nurses and doctors at St. Luke’s Hospital, Ohioans Home Health Care, and Jack’s home health aides, Julie, Abby, Norene and Colin, for their kindness and care. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Jack’s life on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio (419-893-7686).
