John J. Hayes Jr.

Jerry Hayes Jr. (Jerry) 95, passed away on May 31, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born in Mansfield, Ohio on September 18, 1930, to John Jarrett Hayes Sr. and Helen (McKinnley) Hayes.

Jerry was inducted into the Army on September 19, 1951, and was stationed in Germany where he served as Sergeant First Class, Unit 7849 in the Korean War. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life Sue Winther, a member of WAAC (Women Army Auxiliary Corps) whom he married on June 6, 1953. After discharging on August 30, 1953, Jerry and Sue settled down in Lakewood, Ohio and started a family. Jerry began working with the Sun Oil Company as a Senior Accounting Clerk in 1955. In 1959, they moved to Berea, Ohio and then in 1976, they made their last move to Maumee, Ohio. Jerry retired from Sun Oil in 1987 after 32 years of dedicated service.

While in Maumee, Ohio, Jerry was a member of the Elks American Legion #553 from 1983 to 2019. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Sue.

Jerry is survived by his children Patricia (Carlos) Menendez of Greenville, Ohio; John J. (Linda) Hayes III of Northwood, Ohio; Jennifer (Chris) Block of Toledo, Ohio.

He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Matthew (Jenny) Menendez, Lodi, CA; Joseph (Allie) Menendez, Parrish, FL; Megan (Andrew) Karmol, Northwood, OH; Amanda Hayes (Adam) Van Allen; Jacob (Emily) Greear, Waterville, OH; John Jarret Hayes IV, Toledo, OH; Brittany (Chris) Ash, Monroe, MI; Danielle Block, Toledo, OH.

Jerry also had 10 great grandchildren.

Donations can be made to Ohio Living Hospice of Perrysburg, OH.

A private celebration of life for the family will be held at a date to be determined.
