John William Harder III, 82, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at his home. He was born on December 29, 1936 in Toledo to John W. and Dorothy (Greenwood) Harder. After school, John joined the United States Army and served honorably from 1954 to 1957 as Private First Class. He worked at Chrysler as a machine operator for 30 years before retiring in 1996. John was well known for his great sense of humor, loved to “people watch”, enjoyed old Western movies and was most giving. Above all he loved having his family near. John is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Tom Pierce) Lenz; step-children, Joyce Jaegle, Jack (Pat) Heath, Jr., Debbie (Jeff) Rottenstein, Rusty (Pat) Heath, Danny (Susan) Heath, and David (Shelly) Heath; siblings, Jan Dillon, Donald Place, Gary (Kathy) Place, Terry Place, Doreen Weber and Dawn Eickholt; brother-in-law, Richard Eldridge; sister-in-law, Patricia Eldridge and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren Heaths & Eldridges. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan (Eldridge) Harder; son, John W. Harder IV; step-daughter, Wendy Weihrouch, and step-son; Steve Weihrouch. Friends will be received at Neville-Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879) on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. when funeral services will begin. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in John’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
