John Randall Haas, lovingly known as “Randy” to some, passed away on April 27, 2025, at the University of Toledo Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born on June 8, 1959, in Bowling Green, OH, John was the son of Wilbur and Florence (Dalzell) Haas. In 1981, he married Sandra Tomblin, beginning a lifelong partnership that brought adventure, joy and inspiration to all who knew them.
John graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and shared his passion for learning as an Industrial Arts teacher at Maumee High School. In 1984, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing Haas Enterprises, a thriving general contracting business. He was an inveterate “Mr. Fix-it,” always finding challenges to conquer. There were very few challenges too difficult for him to solve, which led to the long-standing success of his business.
His adventurous spirit led him to embrace life as a thrill seeker and adrenaline junkie. Adventures throughout his life included mountain climbing, scuba diving, spelunking, skiing, skydiving, and even skateboarding well into his 60’s… to name a few.
A man of remarkable curiosity and innovation, John “Randy” will be fondly remembered for his love of race cars and his mechanical ability. He was also an inventor, holding a patent with a partner for a medical device utilized by a professional baseball team. His enthusiasm for life extended to being a dedicated member of Gideons International, an advocate for faith and service.
John had a gift for conversation; his knowledge, charisma, and friendly sarcasm left lasting impressions on those who met him. For over 35 years, he was a member of Perrysburg Alliance Church, where he shared his unwavering faith and generosity. Beyond his accomplishments, John was a loving husband, devoted father to Lauren Haas and Jordan (Shannon) Haas, and cherished new grandfather to Jackson Randall Haas (born one week before his passing). He was blessed with the opportunity to see his new grandson. He is survived by his siblings, Gordon Haas, Joyce Snider, Jean Prol, and Lyndon (Ginger) Haas, as well as his faithful dog, Greta (who was given special permission to visit him on one occasion in the hospital).
