John R Guest

September 11, 1943 — July 9, 2025

John R. Guest, 81, of Toledo, Ohio, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 9th, 2025. John was surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

John was born on September 11, 1943 in Zanesville, Ohio. In his younger years, John worked on freighter ships as a painter. John went on to become a truck driver, where he retired from The Keebler Company. However, he found his true passion as a carpenter. John was extremely skilled and known for his meticulous craftsmanship. He had an ability to build just about anything, and always took great pride in his work.

John will be remembered for his sharp mind, quick wit, and the love he shared with his family. Even in his final days, his sense of humor and intelligence continued to shine through, a testament to the strength of his spirit. John enjoyed collecting unique knives, exploring the latest in technology, and sharing the newest gadgets with his family and friends. But above all, music was his greatest passion. It filled his days, lifted his spirits, and spoke to his soul in ways nothing else could. In John’s last years, he enjoyed sitting out on his patio with his headphones on, overlooking the pond, watching the geese.

John fell in love and married his loving and devoted wife, Norma J. Guest, of 55 years, who preceded him in death in 2018. John is also preceded in death by his parents, Lester Guest and Phyllis Brown, sons, John and Todd Guest, and grandson, Tristan Mayse.

To carry on his legacy, John is survived by his children, Beth (Steve) Dailey of Rochester Hills, MI; Lester (Tamara) Guest of Manchester, MI; Joshua (Kelly) Guest of Perrysburg, OH; Christa (Ron) Brownfield of Toledo, Oh; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

John was a great man of faith who strived to share the love and gentleness of Christ to all he knew. John’s life was a beautiful example of his faith and the values he held dear. Though we grieve his absence, we take comfort in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior and is at peace.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 26th at Calvary Church, 1360 Conant St., Maumee, OH. Friends can express sympathies to the family online by visiting www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
