John E. Geisler

John E. Geisler, 85, of Maumee, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Toledo to Ollie and Elsie (Blue) Geisler on January 1, 1938. In 1956 he graduated from DeVilbiss High School where he was an All-State guard on their football team. He later went on to play for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Toledo Tornados. John met and married the love of his life, Cherie Geisler (Kaiser), in the summer of 1964. John was a brick mason and member of the Local 3 Bricklayers and Masons Union. Any trip though Toledo was a guided tour of buildings and projects that he had worked on over the years.

John enjoyed traveling with his family, he never left home without a deck of cards for the inevitable game of euchre. He avoided travel in the fall during the Ohio State Buckeye’s football season; he never wanted to miss a game. He was a generous man who believed in doing the right thing. His sense of humor was one of a kind, affectionately being known as “grumpy grandpa” to some, he had a certain charm that will forever be unmatched. He enjoyed fishing on Mud Lake, golfing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

John is survived by his loving wife, Cherie Geisler; children, Terry (Julie) Geisler, Christine (Craig) Metter; grandchildren, Lauren (Zachary) Schaffer, Gretchen Metter, Rachael Geisler, Jack Geisler, Ian Metter, Teddy Geisler; siblings, Jane (Jerry) Sobb, and Jerry Reiter. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Geisler; siblings, Jim Geisler, Sue Barnes; and parents.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 10 a.m., until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
