John Stephen France

John France of Toledo passed away Jan. 25 at the age of 70. John grew up north of New York City and spent many summer weeks as a boy with extended family in Indiana. John was an Eagle Scout.  He met his wife, Kathleen, at Ball State University. He competed on the debate team and graduated in 1974. They moved to Toledo so John could attend law school at The University of Toledo. After graduating in 1978, John practiced law for 20 years then taught at Davis College and Owens Community College. His favorite opportunity at Owens was teaching in the prison. John was a long time member of Five Lakes Church (previously known as McCord Rd. Christian Church). He served there in many capacities most recently as a Bible study teacher.

Frequent trips to visit out of state family were important to John. Weekend trips to Indiana to spend time with Kathleen’s family, Thanksgiving with extended family in Whitewater, IN, a week every summer at Friends Lake in NY with his parents and siblings and their families, along with Christmas trips there for skiing are happy family memories.  John is survived by his wife, Kathleen, 3 daughters: Emily Schienke (Derek), Jill Locklear (Calvin), Abby Norman (Christian) and 11 grandchildren. Because John loved the Lord and was sure of eternal life in Him, the family is comforted.

Visitation At Boulevard Christian Church (7041 Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania, OH) on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm.
