John L. Filby, Sr., age 87, of Whitehouse, OH, died January 21, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, OH. He was born August 14, 1934, in Belleville, Pa. to the late Raymond and Mary Helen (Abbott) Filby. John graduated in 1952 from Perry Zane High School, Bellefontaine, where he played both football and baseball.
John was a mold maker at Libbey Glass for more than 40 years. An avid collector of “things”, he enjoyed fishing and trips to the beach. John was quiet, kind-hearted, and caring with a fun-loving sense of humor. John’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Linda D. (Schafer) Filby; children, Lauren (Bill) Herring, John Jr., B. Keith, Dennis (Lori), and Ronald (Debbie) Filby, Larri Joe (Judy) Wells, Lester Wells, Nina (Jon Julet) Barlow, Lori (Brian) Sprau, and Ralph Lipscomb, Jr.; son-in-law, Richard Dennett; 38 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and brother, Paul Tom (Rita) Filby. John was also preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Dennett; brothers, Bill, Robert, and George Filby; and his beloved Yorkie, Samson.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
