John J. Doherty, age 90, of Swan Creek Retirement Center Toledo, formerly of Maumee, went to be with his loving wife, Monday, August 29, 2011. He was born November 28, 1920 in New York, NY to Edward and Ellen Doherty where he was raised. John served his country in the US Army 338th Division in Italy during WWII. He was employed as a pricing manager for Bunting Brass and Bronze, over 40 years, retiring in 1971. John was a charter member of the Maumee VFW Post and loved attending his Army reunions. He was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and enjoyed bowling, golf and the NY Yankees. He and his wife of 62 years, Helen enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. The widower of Helen Doherty who passed away March 25, 2008, John is survived by his son, Kevin Vicki Doherty; daughters, Karen Roger Warnock and Patricia Trish John Valerius; grandchildren, Kyle and Evan Doherty, Brie and Devin Warnock, Ryan Lindsay and Crystal Jenkins, and Courtney Thorn; great grandchildren, Austin Click and Elijah Harvath, nephew, Michael Doherty and niece, Kathleen Doherty. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Doherty. Family and friends may visit Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 3-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will begin Friday, September 2, 2011 at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Church. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. The family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association or Honor Flight.
