John A. Diebert

February 12, 1938 — October 29, 2021

John A. Diebert, 83, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at the home of his son, Wayne. He was born, February 12, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Arthur E. and Almeda M. (Hagemeyer) Diebert. John graduated from the Genoa High School, class of 1957. He met Mary Ann (Heineman) and on October 24, 1959, they married in Oak Harbor, Ohio. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2006. John was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, as a technician, for 34 years, 11 months and 28 days, retiring on July 16, 1993, at the rank of CW3. During his time in the service, he received numerous recognitions for his accomplishments. While John was in school, he participated in all sports, enjoying the competition and the challenge it offered. After his retirement from the military, he stayed very active as a member of the Senior Advisory Board of the Genoa Care Center and the Genoa Senior Center where he was a past president. He was inducted into the Ottawa County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, for his commitment to the organization and those it represented. John was a great conversationalist and could often be found talking to some one at the Genoa Care Center, the Senior Center or anywhere for that matter! He looked forward to attending Genoa Comet sporting events, the diehard fan that he was, and rooting for his grandchildren and all of the players. He loved his family and was their “cheerleader”; being positive and motivating everyday and with everything. John enjoyed driving around in his golfcart and could often be found giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren rides around town. He was always enjoyed a good meal that usually included a good pot of coffee, eggs up, orange slices, hard candy, suckers and one of his favorites, chicken, shrimp, French fries all from the Keg. He especially looked forward to anything that his son Wayne cooked! Those that survive John include his daughter, Norleen (Galen), sons, Wayne (Melissa), Rex (Jennifer), Larry, grandchildren, Joshua Powers, Jacob (Aubrey), Kurt (Jessica), Jacob (Nichole), Kyle (Chelsey), Brock, Brandon, Acacia (Brian) and Rayann, Nine great-grandchildren, brother, Fred, sisters, Sylvia June Newman and Linda Tanner.
