John George Collins

August 21, 1933 — April 25, 2021

John G. “Jack” Collins of Coldwater Michigan and formerly of Perrysburg passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Jack was born August 21, 1933 to John E. and Esther M. Collins and grew up in Toledo. He attended Scott High School and upon graduating, joined the US Air Force. He served as a pilot cadet in the Air Force from 1951 until 1955. On January 28, 1956, he married Mary Lou Bunce, settled in Perrysburg and together they raised three children. After 17 years as a warehouse foreman at Johns Manville, Jack’s love and knowledge of all things electronic provided a “conduit” to a new career as an electronics technician for the US Postal Service from which he retired in 1998. A very intelligent man, he loved all things “techy”; Jack loved to build and create. He completely rebuilt a lake cottage in Coldwater, Michigan. This eventually became his and Mary Lou’s year-round home, where they lived from 2000 until his passing. They loved sitting on the porch, arguing about whose turn it was to make the coffee, and enjoying the spectacular view of Morrison Lake. They also enjoyed fishing and pontoon boat rides with their family and boat club friends, of Morrison Lake. Jack was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #2900, Coldwater, Michigan, the Fourth Degree Assembly #500 in Bronson, Michigan and formerly St. Rose Catholic Church. He was also a life-long member of the Weak Signals RC Club as well as the Eagles, Elks, and Moose lodges. John generously donated his time and energy and funds to many charitable organizations including the Branch Area Food Pantry and local women’s shelter. Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou, their children; Jim (Dawn) Collins, Laurie (Dave) Creps, and Pam (Gene) McMillin. Also surviving are his six grandchildren; Katie Parsons, Jennifer McMillin, Brandon Collins (friend Brittany Koepfer), Shannon (Scott) Batch, Brooke (friend Nick Gilliam) Collins, and Mallory Creps (fiancé Dominic DeCesare). Jack was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Jack and Eva Parsons and Blayke Gilliam. Also surviving are his sisters, Margaret Weitz, and Kathy Haack. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Collins. Friends will be received at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home 222 E. South Boundary in Perrysburg from 4 – 8 on Thursday, April 29th with Rosary reciting at 7:30. The funeral Mass will be Friday April 30 at 10:30 at St Rose Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Branch County Food Bank, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Saint Charles of the Borromeo in Coldwater Michigan, and Saint Rose of Perrysburg.
