John Frederick “Fred” Cassidy (5/7/1936) of Toledo, OH, son of Margaret and James Cassidy, passed away quietly in his home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Fred graduated Central Catholic High School (1954) and the University of Toledo for degrees in both Chemical Engineering (1959) and an MBA (1962). Fred Married Judith L. Cooper in 1959 and began their large family. The three most important things to him were his education, his career, but mostly, his family; and Fred threw his heart and soul into it all. He coached CYO basketball and football at St. Pat’s of Heatherdowns and although tone-deaf himself, he supported all musical and dance education for his children. He never missed an Anthony Wayne Band/Choir concert or football game, gave his family the gift of traveling across the United States and Canada, and provided top education for his children and grandchildren. He delighted the family with stories of his youth and thrilled them with his “hideous” laugh. Fred built successful technical and management careers at Park Davis, Maumee Chemical, Owens Illinois, Boise Cascade and Weyerhaeuser. During this career, he became the vice president for three fortune 500 companies and was a member of several technical trade organizations. He was a big believer in education and philanthropy, as evidenced by his many donations to libraries, nature preserves, Habitat for Humanity, food kitchens, and churches. He was a Monclova Township Trustee for several years as well. He was known for treating people fairly and with dignity in both his personal and professional life. He is preceded in death by his parents James Patrick and Margaret Mary (McGowan) Cassidy, daughter, Connie (Douglas) Armstrong, brother, James Patrick Cassidy, Jr., sister, Margaret “Peggy” Ann Poling, first wife, Judith Leck (Cooper) Cassidy, and very special friend, Dorothy (Padgett) Bigelow. He is survived by his children, Sheila Blake, John Jr., M. Bridget, Eileen (Kirk) Shade, siblings: Mary, Thomas (Rene), Michael (Kate), grandchildren: Margaret “Peggy” (Derek) Caveney, Sara (Stephen) Keen, Joseph “Joe” Blake (Shelbi Sullenberger), Emily Blake, Irina Petty, John Shade (Chloe Fairchild), Katherine “Katie” Shade, great-grandchildren: Clark Madden, Jack and Grant Caveney, Stephen M. Keen, Isabella Petty, many nieces and nephews, and life-long friend David Gladieux. To those who knew him, there are no words to express how deeply he will be missed. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 3-7:00 pm with a Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Road).
