John L. (“Jack”) Burton, 92, of Perrysburg, OH, died peacefully at home on November 24, 2017. John was born in 1925 in Richmond, IL, the youngest of three sons of Louis and Harriet Burton. He married Nancy Stine in 1951, in Chicago, IL. John and Nancy celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary in March, before Nancy passed away in August. John served in the 1271st Engineer Combat Battalion, United States Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, and contributed to the Perrysburg Veteran’s Oral History Project in 2007. John graduated Northwestern University in 1950 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Lily Tulip Cup in Chicago, then in Commack, NY as a chemical engineer, eventually moving to Perrysburg in 1978 with Owens Illinois. John was an Amateur Radio operator (WA2VDA), amassing a collection of QSL cards from around the world. He and Nancy were avid square dancers. John was a member at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Perrysburg and enjoyed singing in the choir. John is survived by his daughter and son-in law, Cate and Eric Eales of Kelowna, BC; son and daughter-in-law, The Rev. John and Dr. KC Burton of Windham, CT; grandsons, Christopher Burton of Seoul, Korea and Silas Burton of NYC. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 E Boundary St, Perrysburg, OH 43551 on Thursday, December 7 at 11:00 AM, where his ashes will be interred. His family will greet his friends during a reception following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Timothy’s. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
