John Joseph Armelagos

August 29, 1954 — April 24, 2024

John J. Armelagos, age 69, of Maumee, Ohio, died April 24, 2024, at The Toledo Hospital. He was born August 29, 1954, in Allen Park, Michigan to the late Harry and Patricia (Stefanski) Armelagos. After graduating from Allen Park High School, John earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University.

Possessing a keen business intellect and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to a more than 45-year career in the gas business. John, the “Gas Man” as his family oft referred to him, built, sold, and acquired numerous companies. He currently was the owner and operator of Global Rare Gas in Northwood, Ohio. John received numerous awards for safety as well as certifications in advancing his knowledge of the gas industry. Later in his life, John was proud to create the Armelagos Family Foundation to assist children with special needs.

John knew how to find the balance between working hard and having fun. He was an avid University of Michigan football fan and never missed a game! He was a generous donor to the University of Michigan and has his name in both the Michigan Stadium and the Crisler Arena. He always loved going on vacation with his family, especially to visit his home in Long Island, Bahamas, and would often be found swimming in the sunshine. He effortlessly made every trip memorable with his never-failing sense of humor. In his downtime, John enjoyed the simple things in life such as grilling and smoking meat, as well as creating funny videos to make people laugh. He truly was the most kind-hearted man and always put his family first. He was affectionately known as “Big Teddy Bear” to his wife, Tina Lee (Dudek) Armelagos, whom he married on November 30, 1989. John’s presence and love will be extremely missed by Tina, his children, and all of those who dearly loved him.

John is survived by his loving wife, Tina; children, Holly Armelagos (fiancé, Tramaine Poullard), Corey Armelagos; niece, Ashley Guilkey; nephew, Kyle Dudek; brothers-in-law, Johnny (Jennifer) Dudek, Earl Dudek; and his sweet Welch Corgi companion, Blue. He was preceded in death by his parents.
