Joanne M. Stack, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021, in Swanton, Ohio. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 10, 1926, Joanne graduated in the top 10 from Central Catholic High School. After high school, she went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. Years later in the 1960’s, while raising three children, Joanne returned to school at the University of Toledo to qualify as a realtor. During her 40 years in real estate with The Danberry Company, Joanne was co-chair of the Political Affairs Committee for five years and served on the State Legislature Committee and the Political Affairs Committee of the Ohio Associations of Realtors. Joanne enjoyed playing the piano, ballroom dancing, sailing, shopping, spending time in the Bahamas, gardening, playing bridge in several leagues for over 50 years, and playing golf at Highland Meadows Golf Club and the South Toledo Golf Club. She especially enjoyed the theater. In the early 2000’s, she began volunteering at the Sylvania Senior Center, and worked at the reception desk for several years. From January to April, she worked with other AARP volunteers assisting seniors with their income tax forms. She enjoyed this as it allowed her to use skills she previously acquired at the IRS. Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Stan (Stack) Stachowicz; brother Al Rutkowski, and sister Dorothy Bielski. She is survived by her daughter Colleen M. Roberts (Clyde), sons Mark S.Stack (Debbie), and Matt W. Stachowicz (Annie); grandchildren Kristin Evans, Chad Stachowicz, Christopher Roberts, and Blake Roberts; and four great-grandchildren Aiden Roberts, Norah Evans, Penelope and Norah Stachowicz, and sister Sue Fitzgerald of South Carolina. Her memberships included Sylvania Senior Center and its Booster Club, Sylvania St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Lourdes College Auxiliary, AARP, and the Bridge Marathon. Due to the dangers of Covid-19, the family has postponed a memorial service for Joanne until safer times. Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, has assisted the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Joanne’s name.
