Joanne Lillian Schmidt

Joanne L. Schmidt, 87, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away peacefully, June 27, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 7, 1934, the daughter of Albert and Alma (Seeman) Frosch and raised in the Toledo area. She married Sylvester A. Schmidt in Mominee Town, Ohio on October 6, 1962, and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2013.

Shortly after Joanne was born, her mother passed away and she was raised by her relatives. She had always wanted to become a nurse, but that was never to be, but that never stopped her drive to help those in need. Whether it be a family member, friend, or an acquaintance, she was always there, ready to offer a helping hand. It never mattered what was needed, she offered food, shelter, clothing, and a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman who knew what was needed and was driven to make it happen. Family was her life. Some would say she was “particular,” but to those who knew her, it was just something that had to be done. She was a meticulous note taker, who kept track of even the smallest detail, making sure everything was covered. Joanne loved to cook and at family gatherings, her baked beans were always the “must have” dish! When she had the opportunity to relax, she played Euchre and Pinochle.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Anna M. (Justin Purkey) Schmidt, granddaughter, Sarah L. (Brandon) Floro, and sister, Jackie Collingwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Luella, Herbert, Doris, and Lucille.
