Joanne Marguerite Konieczny

Joanne Marguerite Konieczny, 75, of Oak Harbor, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 in the Genoa Retirement Village early Monday after a 6 month illness. Born on September 29, 1933 in Fremont, Ohio the first of two daughters to Avery H. and Lois F. Clayman Humphrey on Sept. 29, 1933, Joanne was a lifelong resident of Oak Harbor and a 4th generation member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She graduated from OHHS in 1951 and on July 9, 1955 married Donald J. Konieczny. Joanne received her B.A. and M.A. from Bowling Green State University while teaching 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades at Carroll School in the BCS School District. She was the impetus behind the Carroll School Land Lab, a career high light for her. Affectionately referred to as Mrs. K by students and staff, Joanne retired in 1998 after 32 years in the classroom. Her avocations were genealogy, travel, and grandchildren. Joanne took particular pride in teaching others her 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and all the students who were lucky enough to have been in her care. Surviving are: a sister, Mary Louise James Harder of Elkhart, IN.; 3 children, Julie Louise Konieczny of Oak Harbor, Timothy Avery Konieczny Joyce of Millbury, and Michael Anthony Konieczny Denise of Phoenix, AZ; and 5 grandchildren, Amy Rejoice, Claire Margaret, and Joshua Avery Konieczny of Millbury and Philip Donald and Avery Norman Konieczny of Phoenix. Visitation will be at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory in Oak Harbor from 6-8PM on Wed. the 12th, and from 2-4PM and 6-8PM Thursday the 13th. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, Nov. 14th at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor followed by burial in Union Cemetery.
