Joanne Mahoney Jurek, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Joanne worked for the Toledo Council of Social Agencies before her marriage to husband, Donald. She was a dedicated volunteer serving at St. Anthonys Villa while still in high school, on many political campaigns, at Mercy Hospital, at St. Catherine Parish and school, at St. Francis de Sales High School, and for any projects or causes with which her family was associated. She was a member of St. Catherine Parish for over sixty-two years and recently became a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Joanne was born on January 20, 1939 to her mother, Martha and father, Eugene Mahoney both of whom preceded her in death. Her brothers, James and Martin Mahoney also preceded her in death. Joanne is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald. She is also survived by her sons, Christopher, Michael Michele and D.J. Jill; grandchildren, Kristin, Alexander, Benjamin, Megan, Margaret Maggie, and Josephine Josie brother, Daniel Judy, sister, Kathryn Daniel Dever, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Mahoney, Katherine Mahoney, and Marcia James McDaniel. Joanne also leaves behind many friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews who were all very special to her. Joannes greatest treasures in life were her family and her dear and close friends. Her legacy to them is her sense of humor which to her was the salt and pepper of life and which she used generously! She lived in Faith and she shared her love, her loyalty, and her laughter with those she loved. Friends may call on Friday from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30pm. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest, Toledo, OH 43623. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Catherine Parish Building Fund, Christ the King Catholic Church, Notre Dame Academy, or St. Francis de Sales High School.
