Joanne Carolyn Junkins

Joanne Haas Junkins was born in Wood County, Ohio, to John V. Haas and Helen (Hertzfeld) Haas. She was one of eleven children.

Joanne began her education at St. Rose Catholic School in Perrysburg, Ohio, where her sharp mind became apparent. Her academic promise earned her a scholarship to St. Ursula Academy on Collingwood Boulevard in Toledo.

In 1949, Joanne married the love of her life, Karl Junkins. Together they raised eight children: Mary Beth, Jeanne, Nancy, Brian, John, Karla, Paul, and Andrew.

Even while raising a large family, Joanne never stopped pursuing her own dreams. In the 1960s, she returned to school, earning both her bachelor's degree from Mary Manse College and Master of Education from University of Toledo. She embarked on a long and meaningful career in education, teaching at Walbridge School, St. Charles School in Toledo, and later at Lake Local Schools. She retired in 1992 after twenty years of dedicated teaching.

In retirement, Joanne devoted her hands to quilting. Alongside her sister, Eileen Reid, she lovingly hand-sewed many quilts for her children.

Joanne's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Maumee Senior Center and the Elizabeth Scott Community for their compassionate care and support.
