JoAnn Degnan

JoAnn Degnan, age 88, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025. JoAnn was born on February 18, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, to Anthony and Hazel Sodd. She attended Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral for grade school and was a proud graduate of St. Ursula Academy.

JoAnn worked for many years at Hudson’s/Marshall Field’s department store. Following her retirement, she devoted her time and energy to volunteering. She was a committed volunteer at Heartbeat of Toledo and gave countless hours to The Historic Church of St. Patrick in various capacities. She and her late husband, Larry, shared a special passion for mentoring engaged couples as they prepared for marriage.

JoAnn's life revolved around her family; she loved doing things for and with them. She also had a lifelong passion for history, which she pursued both by reading historical books and by traveling to historic sites, enjoying both far and near journeys.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Degnan. She is survived by her children, Denise Moore, Brent Degnan, and Grant Degnan; grandchildren, James Dumke, and Connor Degnan; and special friend, Michael Armstrong.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at The Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale Ave, Toledo, on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care, especially Tiffany and her team, Meghan, and Chris, along with the many others who supported her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Chapel Outreach, The Historic Church of St. Patrick, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
