Joan Iris Bycroft Wirtz, age 90, of Mentor, Ohio formerly of Toledo, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 in Cleveland. She was born October 15, 1924 in Brisbane, Australia to Harry and Margaret Bycroft. She was devoted and happy to be able to enjoy her family and her home and graciously welcomed friends and relatives for visits. Joan often acknowledged how blessed she felt to be touched by so many wonderful people and places. She was a proud Aussie and a brave soul in her time to sail to the United States to marry her Charlie. Her loss leaves us with many happy memories of her joy for life. The widow of Charles J. Wirtz, Sr., her husband of 35 years, she is also preceded in death by George Campbell, her companion of 26 years and grandson, Kyle Wirtz. Surviving are her sons, Ken (Maria) and Chuck (Joann) Wirtz; grandchildren, Todd, Kevin (Kathy), Clayton (Tiffany), and Matthew (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Karson, Merzen, Lanie and Wynn; Georges children and grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-8 PM in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will begin Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 AM in St. Josephs Church, Sylvania. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donors choice.
