Joan C. Ryan

Joan Clarice (Mandery) Ryan, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015  at her home in Sylvania, surrounded by family and friends. A life-long Toledo resident, Joan attended St. Catherine’s school and graduated from  Central Catholic in 1948 where she met Jerry and many wonderful friends. She and her husband Jerry were married in 1951 and celebrated their 64th anniversary on the 16th of June. Joan raised 5 children in their home on Castlewood Drive in west Toledo.  She enjoyed playing Bridge, camping, gambling, a lively political discussion, vacationing at the cottage at Lake James in Indiana, and their month in Fort Meyers every year.  She sponsored and corresponded with many children in Guatemala and the Phillipines and volunteered for a number of causes, notably her work for Foundation for Life. After raising her children, Joan worked with her husband for many years at Ryan Pharmacy on Dorr Street.  She enjoyed traveling to many countries and recently enjoyed a trip to Paris with her daughter. She is survived by her husband Jerry; sister, Angie Mandery-Ringenbach of Toledo;  sister-in-law, Patt Wonser of Toledo and Ft. Myers, FL; and 5 children, Deborah Schoen-Gedert of Toledo, Jerry Jr. (Barbara) of Madison, Wisconsin, Jamer (Patty) of Lakewood, Ohio, Michael (Steffany) of Huntersville, NC, and Timothy (Dee Dee) of Toledo.  Joan will be missed by her 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, with the youngest great-granddaughter unexpectedly being born 12 hours after Joan passed - she will have a special guardian angel.    Her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor will never be forgotten, nor her love for her friends and family. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 12:30 to 6:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey).  Visitation will continue on Monday from 9-10 AM in Corpus Christi University Parish 2955 Dorr St. Toledo where the Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 AM.  Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  The family suggests memorials to Hospice of NW Ohio, 30000 River Rd.
