Joan B. Niedzwiecki, age 90, of Swanton, Ohio, died April 6, 2023, at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, Ohio. She was born April 23, 1932 in Toledo to the late John and Beatrice (Jankowski) Urbanowski and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950. Joan was employed in retail at the Lion Store for many years and established herself as the day manager of the gift shop at the Toledo Express Airport. She interacted with hundreds of travelers throughout her nearly 30 years at the airport.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed reading, especially fiction, watching NCIS marathons, and visiting her favorite destination; the Great Smoky Mountains. Initially from St. Adalbert’s Parish in Toledo, she attended St. Richard Catholic Parish in Swanton for the past 50 years. Joan was feisty, full of energy, encouraging, and a good friend. She will most be remembered for her caring devotion to her family, who she always put first in her life. The very definition of a Prayer Warrior, her candle lighting, chime ringing, singing, and faith was a constant comfort in her children’s lives.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Lynn Smith, Donna Lange (Jim), John Niedzwiecki (Sharon), Janet Bauer (Bruce), and Brian Niedzwiecki (Jeff Snow); grandchildren, Jim Lange (Carolyn), Susan Micsko (Gary), Julie Lange, Katy Walker (Keith), Caleb, Isaac (Bre) and Lindsey Niedzwiecki, Ashley Smith (Kyle), and Kevin Bauer (Callan); and fourteen great grandchildren. Joan was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Niedzwiecki, on February 15, 2000, and a brother, Larry Urban. She will be most greatly missed by her devoted cat, Wilson, who has adored her since they rescued each other twelve years ago.
All services will be private.
Contributions in Joan’s name are suggested to the Toledo Area Humane Society.
