She also attended the 1997 Rose Bowl parade and game where Ohio State won over Arizona State in the last 19 seconds. Joan was a talented crafter in ceramics, needlepoint and knitting. She especially enjoyed, and spent many hours, knitting blankets for children in need for the Linus Project. For many years she was a very active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church from teaching Sunday school to volunteering in the office after retirement. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, son Jeffrey Nicholas and dogs Zelda (a husky) and Molly (a dalmatian). She is survived by her significant other James Smothers of Walbridge, OH, and several cousins.
