Joan Eloise Moomey, 92, of Toledo, died peacefully, Tuesday April 10, 2018 after a short stay at Hospice of NW Ohio. With her loving family, she went peacefully to join her late husband, William N. Moomey, missing him for 17 long years after 52 years of shared love and devotion. Joan was born in Toledo, Ohio to John and Eloise Cauffiel on March 21, 1926. She received her B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Delaware. She enjoyed her time as a dietitian first with the Ohio Bell cafeteria, then the American Lamb Council, the Program for the Mentally Retarded, Head Start, and Decem Center. Joan enjoyed her time volunteering for Lutheran Social Services, Wolcott House Guild, and Youth for Understanding, hosting students from Australia and Sweden. She continued to be active in Beta Sigma Phi as a 70 year member, Triune Chapter #344 O.E.S. District 6, serving as Worth Matron in 1983, 1996, and 2004. She also enjoyed her involvement in P.E.O. since 1991 and Dendarah Court #10 LOSNA. Joan and family were charter members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Toledo. Family was first and foremost, always and forever. After that genealogy, writing cookbooks and life stories, reading, cooking, entertaining, collecting, traveling, and bridge were passions she shared with family and friends. Surviving are her 4 children, Patricia (Greg) Hill of The Villages, FL, James (Denise) Moomey of Sylvania, John (Linda) Moomey of Monroe, MI and Kathryn Horvath of Jacksonville, FL; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey Rd.) on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 2-9:00pm with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Monday at the funeral home followed by interment at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551 or to the charity of the donors choice.
