Joan M. Hiller, 73, of Toledo, Ohio, and formerly of Genoa, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in the Edward Marion Knight Hospice Center, Perrysburg, Ohio. Joan was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 11, 1940, to Raymond and Emily Culp Forristell. She married Chris Hiller in Maumee, Ohio, on May 23, 1972, and he preceded her in death on January 13, 1996. Joan graduated from St. Wendelin High School in Fostoria, Ohio, and later graduated from Mary Manse College with her degree in education. She taught school in the Toledo area for 42 years retiring in 2000. Her first years were spent teaching in several Catholic schools for the Diocese of Toledo. She then taught for 28 years in a number of schools on the east side of Toledo. Joan was a voracious reader and kept a list of all the books she had read. Over the years she attended a number of Mystery Book conventions. After her retirement she volunteered as a tutor for the children at the Bethany House womens shelter in Toledo. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with her family. Survivors of Joan include her daughters, Julie Robert Rusgo of Sylvania and Karen Jeff Quigg Hiller of San Francisco, CA, and grandchildren, Adam, Elayna, and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Raymond Forristell and sister Emily Dauterman. Joans family invites friends and relatives to celebrate her life at Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania, OH 43560, on Saturday, November 23, 2013, between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m.. It is suggested that memorials for Joan be directed to the donors library of choice or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH 43430, has assisted the family with arrangements.
