Joan Gwendolyn Doerfler

JOAN GWENDOLYN DOERFLER (MERCER) Joan Doerfler, age 75 of Maumee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Swan Pointe Care Center under the care of Southern Care Hospice. Born to Thomas and Lenore (Wing) Mercer on July 23, 1936 in Toledo, Joan was the oldest of three children. She started a family at a young age and made them her life. In her earlier years she was a manicurist at Imperial Barbers, YMCA and delved in Tupperware for a time. She was a wonderful artist, enjoyed shopping, crafts and collecting knick-knacks for many years. Joan was always such a gracious person and will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and love of her family. Her heart was of gold and was the good in everyone. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her children forever, Paul (Carol) Doerfler of Toledo; Steve (Judy) Doerfler of Swanton; Christine (John) Doerfler of Groveport, OH; and Kathryn “KK” (Larry) Musil of Holland; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister Gwendolyn Blake of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Thomas Mercer of Sylvania and Aunt, Winifred (Wing) Towell of Toledo. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday December 11, 2011 at Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm.
