Jo Ann Pitzen

Jo Ann Miller was born on January 7, 1932 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. She was the eldest of four children born from the union of the late Roy O. and Arny (McElveen) Miller. Jo Ann worked hard to support herself as a Telephone Operator in Baton Rouge for several years until meeting the love of her life, Uland J. Pitzen. Together the couple were married on October 11, 1952 in Baton rouge and from this union came the birth six wonderful children. Jo Ann took time off work to raise her family but became a regular volunteer later at the Disables American Veterans, Sylvania American Legion-Joseph W. Diehn Post 468 and VFW Post 3013, Holland She was friendly and often greeted other s by a handshake and if your hands were cold she always had an old saying to go with it, "Cold Hands, Warm Heart, Dirty Feet, No Sweetheart." she always had a good story to tell about days gone by. Jo Ann enjoyed what life had given her, she was family oriented and valued nothing over her grandchildren. Jo Ann Pitzen, age 87 of Berkey, Ohio formerly of Holland, Ohio passed away at 8:22 am on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years; Uland Pitzen in June of 2006. To cherish her memory she leaves her loving children; Jeffrey A. (Sherry) Pitzen of Northwood, Michael J. (Vickie) Pitzen of Swanton, Rhonda (Tom) Preston of Toledo, Maureen (Larry) James of Berkey, Patrick D. (Georgia) Pitzen of Toledo and Steven E. (Candie) Pitzen of Waterville; brothers; Lester (Sue) Miller of Louisiana, Kenneth (Margaret) Miller of Tennessee and Lynn (Jan) Miller of Virginia; eighteen grandchildren, forty-three great grandmother and two great-great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm on Friday September6, 2019 at Neville-Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio (419-865-8879). A celebration of her life will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ben Michalak of Grace Bible Fellowship Church officiating. Procession will follow to Highland Memorial Gardens in Waterville for burial. Memorial contributions may be made in Jo Ann's name to the Alzheimer's Association,131 N. Wheeling St. #2, Toledo, Ohio 43605.
