Jo-Ann E. Teufel

Jo-Ann E. Teufel, age 86, passed away on August 17, 2015 at Mercy-St. Annes Hospital in Toledo. She was born in Toledo to Jacob and Myrtle (Bibb) Straus on September 29, 1928. Her family returned to the Bibb Farm on Sterns Road at Liberty Corners in 1932. Jo-Ann was one of four Bibb generations to attend Liberty Corners school. After graduating from Lambertville High School as valedictorian in 1946, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Toledo University. Following a year-long internship in the St. Vincent Laboratory, Jo-Ann passed the National Certification Exam and was registered as a Medical Technologist (ASCP). Jo-Ann married Robert W. Teufel on September 9, 1950 and they moved to Cleveland where she worked at the Cleveland Clinic and Bob attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Upon his graduation in 1953, they moved back to the Toledo area and built a home on the Bibb Centennial Farm in Bedford Township where they lived for 42 years. Jo-Ann was an active RSVP volunteer working for the Local History Room of the Bedford Library for a number of years. She was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir for over 30 years, and was moderator of the congregation in 1994. Jo-Ann was currently a member of Sylvania United Church of Christ. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to 48 states in their motor home, researching her family genealogy, and working in her flower gardens. Jo-Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert; children, Terry (Charlie Alter) and Tim (Cathy); and granddaughter Molly Teufel. Visitation will be Friday, August 21, 2015 from 10:00 am until the time of memorial services at 11:00 am at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie St. Sylvania, OH 43560.
