Jill Renee Scarbrough, affectionately known as JR, GiGi, and Grandma, passed away peacefully at her home in Maumee, Ohio, on May 20, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on August 11, 1973, in Toledo, Ohio, to Ned and Rosalie (Vass) Dye and on September 27, 1996, Jill married the love of her life and the most patient man she knew, Martin Scarbrough.
Jill was vibrant, loving, and generous whose warmth touched everyone she met. She was a graduate of Bowsher High School and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help during her early years. She later pursued nursing courses at Owens Community College.
She had 15 years of dancing experience. She adored animals and delighted in spoiling her many pets with snacks and cookies. Her home was always full of love—and often, a few extra paws, hooves, or feathers—with dogs, goats, chickens, horses, cats, and ducks all part of her extended family.
She cherished date nights and long drives around town with Marty, relaxing poolside, and soaking up the sun at the beach. Jill loved shopping—not just for herself, but for everyone she cared about. She was known for her generosity, often giving down to her last dollar to make someone else smile.
Jill found joy in the little things: taking lunch to her daughter Jessica to catch up and visit with the girls, FaceTiming with Zack and Walter, and having long, heartfelt phone calls with friends. She looked forward to her hair appointments with her dear friend Sonia, where laughter and stories flowed freely. She loved music, especially country, and was always excited to share a new song she’d discovered.
Her favorite meals included steak or burgers grilled by Marty, baked potatoes, and red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. She treasured after-work phone calls, spontaneous lunch dates, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved.
Jill is survived by her loving parents, Ned S. and Rosalie Dye; her devoted husband, Martin Scarbrough; her children, Marcus, Zackary (Kyle), and Jessica (Cote); her grandson, Walter; her mother-in-law, Joyce Scarbrough; her best friends, Terri, Sonia, John, and Roland; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved animals—dogs Jaxson, Gracie, Chief, Blue, Tony, Stormy, and many more.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Rosemary (Lewis) Stevers; grandfather, Ned A. (Regina) Dye; father-in-law, William Scarbrough; and brother-in-law, Stephen Scarbrough.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Blessings Veteran Outreach, a cause close to Jill’s heart.
