Jesse D. Bloom

Jesse D. Bloom, 81, of Williston, Ohio, died early morning, Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. He was born February 9, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, to Samuel A. and Verl E. Ricket Bloom. Jesse came to live at the Luther Home of Mercy in Williston in 1945 when he was only 12 years old, being the resident who has lived at the Luther Home the longest. He was not just a resident, he was family. Family was important to Jesse, and he enjoyed the companionship of his two sisters, who had also lived at the Luther Home of Mercy. When not spending quite time in his room, Jesse liked to socialize, especially with the ladies; and being feisty and flirtatious, Jesse was known to offer marriage proposals to his favorite female friends. Jesse will surely be missed! He is survived by two nieces, Kathy Dotson and Lorie Ritchey, and nephew, David Bloom. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Andrew, Otis and James Bloom, and sisters, Lucille and Mabel Bloom. A funeral service will be held for Jesse at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Luther Home of Mercy chapel, Pastor Alvera Brandt officiating. Visitation will be 8:30-10 a.m. before the service. Interment will take place in Portage Township Cemetery, Portage, Ohio, at a later date. Jesses family has suggested that memorials be directed to the Luther Home of Mercy, 5810 N. Main St., P.O. Box 187, Williston, OH 43468. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH 43430, has assisted with arrangements.
