Jerry Clark Sutter, age 83, a longtime resident of Stone Oak in Holland, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born July 26, 1933 in Toledo to the late Samuel and Pauline (Wiser) Sutter. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1951 and went on to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he was a member of the R.O.T.C., Delta Tau Delta fraternity and played football for legendary coach, Ara Parseghian. Jerry graduated with his business degree in 1955 and served as a pilot in the United States Air Force in Texas for several years while he started his family. He began his work career with Proctor & Gamble before joining Owens-Corning in Toledo where he was employed from 1964 until his retirement as Vice President of National Accounts in 1995. While at OC, Jerry won Branch of the Year honors and helped pioneer participation with Habitat for Humanity. Jerry was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder, and was active with Bible study. Additionally, Jerry was heavily involved with the Toledo Museum of Art where his wife was a Docent and Ambassador. He passionately loved golf, for both business and pleasure, and especially enjoyed spending winters at his Sarasota, FL home. He and his wife traveled all over the world including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and even the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Jerry found his greatest joy in spending time with his family which often included camping in northern Michigan. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 62 years, Ica Mae (Huebner) Sutter; sons, Steven Sutter (Sue) and Brian S. Sutter (Jan); daughter, Jennifer Sutter; and seven grandchildren, Amy Sutter-Lewis (Ben), John Sutter, Todd Sutter and Megan Sutter, Jessica Bell (Jason), Alexandra Sutter and Jillian Sutter; and sister, Kay Reschke (Jim). Jerry was also preceded in death by a son, Randall C. Sutter. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623, with the Rev. Dr. Tom Schwartz presiding.
