Jerry Lee Harper, 78, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on April 21, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio, raised in Ironton, Ohio, and was the oldest of nine children to Wilson and Gloria (Justice) Harper. He married Kay Truchoweski on March 23, 1962 and she survives. He worked for USCO for more than 30 years, of which he was the Union President for 17 years. Jerry and Kay also had a small farm in Erie Township for many years, and in retirement they became snowbirds in Englewood, Florida where Jerry became a serious Shuffleboard Player. Jerry enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars; golfing, bowling, deer hunting, camping, hiking, watching drag car races, NASCAR, and Western movies. Most importantly, his favorite activity was being involved with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife, Kay; son, Nick Harper; daughters, Kathy (Thomas) Boreman, and Kerryn (Bill) Lockhart; grandchildren, Steven Harper, Rachel Boreman, Danielle (Chase) Holt, Dr. Kayla (Travis) Lockhart-Pagareski, Aaron Lockhart; great-granddaughter, Harper Ann Holt; sisters, Linda Vallance, Sheila Morris, Beverly Barnhart; brothers, David Harper, Manuel (Jane) Harper, Wally (Judy) Harper; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Orlan Harper and Earl Harper. Visitation will be held at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 10 am until Funeral services at 11 am with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 or to Immaculate Conception Catholic School, 109 W. 4th Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452.
