Jerry A. Finch, 84, entered God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Saturday, January 30, 2016, where he was reunited with his loving wife Dolores, a meeting he has been looking forward to for the past four years. Jerry’s life was one of servant leadership. He served God, his church - in various roles, his country - as an airman, his family - as a devoted husband and father, and his many relatives, friends, neighbors and business associates - as a loyal and trusted companion. He was born on August 29, 1931, in Perrysburg, OH, to Albert and Emma Finch. The youngest of 7 children he grew up in Perrysburg and graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1949. He was captain of the basketball team and class president his senior year. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and proudly served as an aircraft radio mechanic in Thule Greenland and Albuquerque, NM. Prior to enlisting he met the love of his life Dolores Dunning. They were married in December 1953. When Jerry completed his service in 1955 he returned to Toledo and began civilian life. He enrolled at the University of Toledo earning a degree in Electrical Engineering while working and attending night classes. He was a lifelong Rocket fan. He spent his entire career at Surface Combustion, in Toledo, engineering and selling industrial furnaces around the world. He enjoyed his work. In 1959, Jerry and Dolores built a house in West Toledo and started their family. They had three children. Jerry was a wonderful Dad and always very involved in all the kid’s activities. He had a love for travel and made time for summer family vacations and weekend trips. There was no place too far for the family station wagon! From the Sand Dunes to the National Parks, it made it to almost all of the 50 states and much of Canada during multiple journeys. When the road ran out the runway began, enabling trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. He even made several journeys by train. After retirement Jerry continued to travel, fully enjoyed his six grandchildren and volunteered at Hospice of Northwest Ohio making home deliveries and providing transportation. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife of 58 years, Dolores, sister-in-law Nancy Barrios and many nieces, nephews and friends. Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are children, Jeff Finch (Ruthann), Karen Brooker (Jeff) and John Finch, his six grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Ryan, and Troy Finch and Jordan and Kiera Brooker, brother-in-law Mel Barrios and many special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 2 to 8 PM at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH. Visitation will continue at the Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 10:00 until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. The family sincerely thanks his many caregivers at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially his home care nurse Amanda, for providing him comfort and support throughout his journey. We also thank the staff at Kingston Residence, Sylvania and all of the great family, neighbors, and friends that looked after him, visited him and sent cards. He very much appreciated the love you extended him. For those considering memorial contributions the family suggests First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Broadway St., Maumee and/or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
