Jennifer Schroeder

October 17, 1968 — February 21, 2026

Jennifer "Jen" Schroeder, 57, passed away surrounded by love on February 21, 2026. Born on October 17, 1968, in Sandusky, Ohio, she was raised in Port Clinton by David and Penny Gottron.

A 1987 graduate of Port Clinton High School, Jen went on to earn a degree in computer programming from Terra Community College. She built a nearly 25‑year career with a cell phone company that later became part of Verizon, where her dedication and work ethic were widely admired.

Jen met John Schroeder while in high school, and life eventually brought them back together. They married and built a life centered on family, sunshine, friendship, and laughter. Together they raised two daughters, Katie and Allie, who were the heart of Jen's world. Some of her happiest moments were spent traveling to places where she could be near the water with a book in hand, especially the Florida Keys and Mexico. Closer to home, she cherished regular trips to Put‑In‑Bay and Kelley's Island. Wherever they went, being together as a family was what mattered most.

As a young girl in 4‑H, Jen learned to bake and decorate cakes, later creating special birthday cakes for her daughters. Jen saw motherhood as her greatest purpose, calling Katie and Allie her best friends. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her own family, as she naturally stepped into a motherly role for anyone who needed support, encouragement, or a listening ear. She was a loyal friend, known for her honesty, warmth, and the way she made others feel celebrated.

After her daughters grew up and moved out, Jen and John became familiar faces at many local restaurants and at the Catawba Island Club, where they enjoyed dinners and catching up with friends. Jen enjoyed attending her book club meetings and lounging by the pool. She was heavily involved in her grandsons and daughters lives, well into adulthood.

Jen's generosity was one of her defining qualities. Every Christmas, she selected multiple children from the Salvation Army Angel Tree, thoughtfully choosing gifts from their lists as well as items she believed would bring them comfort or joy. She wanted every child to feel special.

Jen is survived by her husband, John; her daughters, Katie (Jay) Gang and Allie Schroeder; and her beloved grandchildren, Theo and Lucas. She is also survived by her parents, Dave and Penny Gottron; her siblings, Matt Gottron, Renee Dayringer, Kevin Gottron, Paul Gottron, and Cindy Howell; and her mother‑in‑law, Shirley Schroeder. She was preceded in death by Chuck Strack and her father‑in‑law, Bob Schroeder.

Jen's life was defined by love. Love for her family, her friends, and the many people she quietly supported along the way. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched.
