Jeffrey John Smith

Jeffrey J. Smith, age 65, passed away Sunday November 13, 2016 at St. Lukes Hospital. The son of George and Nancy Smith, he was born October 10, 1951 in Toledo. He attended Maumee High School and then join the U.S. Air force and was honorably discharged. He began a career with the railroads in 1971. Over the course of 35 years, he worked for Penn Central, Conrail and retired from Norfolk-Southern in 2006 as an engineer. Jeff was a member of Mayfair Plymouth Church and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corp. He loved to fish and watch movies, especially horror films. He had a real passion for his pets. His family meant everything to him and he loved them dearly. The true light of his life were his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Helen Jane Smith; children, Jason John (April) Smith, Kim Schatz, Pamela (Dave Downey) Smith; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Bee, Faith Suzanne Bee, David Alan Schatz, Cayden Matthew Schatz, Syarah La Vonne Schatz, Jessica Ashley Long, Katelyn Elizabeth Long, Megan Nicole Rainey, Rebecca Lynn Rainey; and step father, Edward Michael Kuck. He was preceded in death by his son, David John Smith; mother, Nancy Ann Kuck; father, George and aunt uncle, Imogene Herschel Cotner. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 2-9 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to a kidney dialysis center .
